Performers of "The 70s Show" take the stage

Tanya’s Picks:

  • The Tybee Island Songwriters Festival Finale features three performance-packed days of some of the finest artists of today’s country music, including Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame performers Tony Arata and Thom Schuyler. The event kicks off at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Tybee Post Theatre and ends 2 p.m. Saturday at the same location. General admission is $20 per person, per concert.
  • Shuffle into the past for a night of disco and dance as The Historic Savannah Theatre presents The 70s Show, a timely two-hour tribute of the glitz, garments and groove of the 1970s. The curtain rises 8 p.m. Friday with admission set for $39 for adults and $19.50 for ages 17 and under.
  • Eat up the atmosphere at The Desoto Street Market from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The street will be filled with local vendors selling both clothing and cuisine, as well as live music provided by musician Anders Thomsen Trio.
  • Fish up some great food this Saturday night at the Pin Point Seafood Festival. The food includes an assortment of fish, shrimp and recipes for all to enjoy with an open mind and empty stomach. Live music and entertainment run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event will be held at 9992 Pin Point Ave., with $15 admission for adults and $7 admission for ages 10 and under.
  • Break some ground Friday and Saturday as the city holds celebrations for Savannah’s new arena, which is to be constructed at the northeast corner of Gwinnett Street and Stiles Avenue. The groundbreaking will take place at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Then, a community celebration of food and fun takes place 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the City Lot at 1100 West Gwinnett Street.

Marianne’s Picks:

  • Women’s work will be celebrated Thursday as part of She HUSTLES: An Evening for Savannah's Women Entrepreneurs & Leaders. The networking event brings forth the opportunity for local businesswomen, leaders and entrepreneurs to come together for an empowering night of supportive ideas and tackling down challenges. The event is from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center.  Tickets range from $10 for Creative Cost Labs members, $15 for non-members until 5 p.m., and $20 at the door.
  • Enjoy some dancing in the street Friday as part of the Indian Street Block Party. Enjoy some food, fun and fundraising at both the Ghost Coast Distillery and the Service Brewing Co. from 5 to 10 p.m. A portion of all drinks sold will benefit The Humane Society for Greater Savannah in its goals to protect the welfare of animals through adoption services and rescue. Food trucks, live music and raffle drawings round out the night for both locations.
  • See the shine of the spotlight as the Collective Face Theatre Ensemble presents its performance of Howard Richardson and William Berney’s 1944 play Dark of the Moon. The stage is set this weekend at Kennedy Auditorium on Savannah State University’s campus. Performances occur 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. General admission $25; seniors, students and active military pay $20; Savannah State University students and faculty enter for $5.
  • The Fifth Annual Beer, Guys, Cigars, Golf & Poker event, benefitting the Ronald McDonald House, takes place beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with poker games, brewery taste testing and gourmet food. Beer, Guys & Cigars night begins 6 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $100 per person for general admission. On Monday, the annual Ronald Open Golf Tournament “tees off” at 10 a.m. Events will be held at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa.
  • Raise a glass to heritage as the Jewish Educational Alliance holds its annual gala Sunday night. The event includes dining from Chef Jeffrey Quasha, live and silent auctions, and a Wall of Wine raffle. Doors open at 6 p.m. with general admission tickets at $136 per person.
