Savannah has a variety of events lined up this weekend for residents and guests alike. Bill Dawers of Hissing Lawns and the Savannah Morning News has his top picks already on hand.

Bill’s Picks:

• Picture a night of art as The Savannah Cultural Arts Center presents Local Public Art Lecture Series this Thursday evening. It is the first of a three-part series into introduction to public art.  The event will be held at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center at 6 p.m. and is free to the public. The discussion will be moderated by local arts critic and writer Kristopher Monroe.
• Georgia Southern University hosts an event at 6 p.m. Thursday as part of their A Moveable Feast Lecture Series. The lecture, Portrait of the Icon as a Young Woman: Photography and the Making of Stardom, will be held at the Jepson Center of the Arts. The event, which will discuss creating persona and compelling story through photography, is open for all public to attend.
• Rock back as The Black Dahlia Murder performs live at the Victory North Friday at 7 p.m. The Michigan-based melodic death metal band will be performing a medley of singles from their seven full-length albums. Admission is set at $25. 
• Watch a beekeeping film Friday. A one-show-only screening of Honeyland, a Macedonian-made documentary on the personal and professional life of a traditional beekeeper in a remote village within the Balkan Peninsula. The screening will be held at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center at 6:30 p.m. with a $10 admission fee for audience members.
• Get hooked to fun as The Tybee Island Pirate Festival sets shore all weekend. Thursday, the festivities kick off with the annual The Buccaneer Ball hosted by The Crab Shack. The ball is open to all festivalgoers ages 18 and above, with admission tickets set at $50 per person. Friday, the fun continues from 5 to 11 p.m. with petting zoos and bounce houses provided for children and live music and entertainment provided for adults. Admission for adults is $12 and children 12 and under are given access for free. On Saturday, the festivities are set from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. with more food, fun, and a firework show in store. Admission for this date is set for $15 for adults and free for children 12 and under. Sunday, the festival hosts “a free day” for all activities and performances to be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. All activities scheduled from Friday to Sunday will occur in the Strand Parking Lot.
• Raise a glass Sunday afternoon to celebrate the life and legacy A-Town Get Down Arts & Music Festival founder Tom Townsend. Townsend, who passed away Oct. 5, was a respected member of the Savannah community and had coordinated the annual festival and foundation yearly since 2010. The event will be held at the Green Truck Pub from 3 to 6 p.m.
