Fish Killed After Chemicals Spilled In Milledgeville Creek

For now, you should think twice about eating the fish from Fishing Creek in Milledgeville.

That’s the recommendation from Georgia’s Environmental Protection Division following a release last week of industrial chemicals from the Zschimmer and Schwarz chemical factory into the stream that flows into the Oconee River in Milledgeville.

The mix of mechanical lubricants and food additives resulted in a fish kill where the creek passes by a dairy farm and an elementary school. That was documented by the local paper, the Union Recorder.

The EPD says since then conditions in the creek have improved, but that an investigation into the fire and spill continues.
