Atlanta's city council has announced that a plaque honoring a councilman who served four terms before his death last year will be installed at a local park.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the memorial sign for Councilman Ivory Lee Young Jr. will soon be placed at Kathryn Johnston Memorial Park in northwest Atlanta.

The council approved legislation on Monday authorizing the Parks and Recreation Department to install the plaque, though a date for its commemoration hasn't been given.

Young served on the council for more than a decade before he died from cancer last November at 56.

Months before his death, he introduced legislation to name the park where his plaque will sit after Kathryn Johnston, a 92-year-old woman who was killed blocks away by Atlanta police officers in 2006.
