For the first time in more than 30 years, an air show will be held in the city of Dalton.
The Inaugural Wings Over Dalton air show is scheduled May 9 and 10, 2020, at the Dalton Municipal Airport.
The forthcoming show is a collaboration between the city of Dalton and JLC Air Show Management, which is an air show management organization created in 2011 by former Air Force Chief Master Sgt John Cowman.
Dalton Municipal Airport Manager Andrew Wiersma said residents are excited.
“We haven’t had an airshow in Dalton since the 1980s and many of our citizens who attended those shows as kids will now have the opportunity to bring their kids to this show,” Wiersma said. “This is monumental. It’s an experience that will stick with many people for a lifetime.”
The air show will feature an explosive special effects show that recreates the invasion of the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor. It's called "Tora, Tora, Tora."
“It is our collective goal to bring the top talent the aviation industry has to offer,” Cowman said. “We couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to host this event in the carpet capital of the world.”
Former member of the U.S. Aerobatic Team Patty Wagstaff and veteran pilot Buck Roetman will be featured.
Wagastaff has taken home gold, silver, and bronze medals as a member of Olympic-level international aerobatic competitions from 1985 to 1996.
Roetman has more than three decades of experience flying aircrafts, has flown more than 105 types of airplanes and has accrued an estimated 13,500 hours of flight time.
His bright-yellow, modified Pitts S2S has become his go-to plane at shows and a fan favorite among audiences.
Additional performers for Wings Over Dalton will be announced in December during the annual International Council Air Shows convention held in Las Vegas.
