University System Of Georgia Institutions To Suspend Classes For Two Weeks

The University System of Georgia announced a suspension of classes for two weeks at all institutions effective Monday, March 16.
The announcement comes shortly after Gov. Brian Kemp announced Georgia's first death related to COVID-19.

As of Thursday, the Georgia Department of Public Health had identified a total of 31 conformed cases or presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in 12 counties across Georgia.
The University System of Georgia is comprised of 26 institutions including The University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State University and Georgia State University.

According to an email sent by USG Board of Regents Teresa MacCartney, USG institutions are to use the temporary suspension of classes as an opportunity to test their business continuity plans and online learning courses.

With spring break coming to an end, students still away were strongly encouraged NOT to return to campus. Students currently on campus were instructed to leave campus by close of business Friday, March 13 and remain away until March 29.
The University System of Georgia asked its institutions to work with students who are unable to leave campus and provide safe accomodations during this period.
The University System of Georgia continues to monitor the situation in Georgia and will provide further instruction should it become necessary.
