People enjoy fire pits and s'mores at Foxy Loxy Cafe.

Though Independence Day falls on a Thursday this time around, most of us will probably be taking advantage of the "long weekend." Mia Mance of G100 and Rachael Flora of Connect Savannah have several Savannah events to fill your schedule. 

Mia and Rachael talk Savannah weekend events.

Mia's picks: 

  • Celebrate America's independence starting Thursday at Fourth of July on River Street, where there will be fireworks, beer, music and more. Admission is free. 
  • Listen to jazz on the beach at the National Association of Women in the Arts Jazz Festival Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The festival features international and local vocalists, bands and vendors on Tybee Island's pier and beach. Tickets range from $49 to $99, as it's a three-day event.
  • Enjoy a free concert by Lady Antebellum with the 3rd Infantry Division and Family & MWR at Marne Independence Day Celebration at Fort Stewart. The day will be filled with food, fun, music and more, and followed by a fireworks display. Purchase a $5 wristband for unlimited play on site. The event runs from 5 to 10 p.m. 
  • Join Sulfur Studios Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. for a fully loaded evening of open artist studios, exhibitions, viewings and the Sulfur Studios Street Fair with Dark Shark tacos food truck. For the "Home" exhibition, artists were prompted to respond to the idea of 'home.' As usual during First Fridays in Starland, the public is invited to tour their studios and meet the artists working there. Admission is free. 
  • Sample the South's best peach cobbler at Ghost Coast Distillery's Cobbler Cook-Off Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. Among the cobblers will be BowTie Barbecue, Leopold's Ice Cream and live music with Eric Britt. Meet adoptable friends from Coastal Pet Rescue and learn about the work CPR does for Savannah communities. While there's no admission fee, a $5 donation is suggested since all proceeds go to CPR. 
  • See Southern rapper Jeezy at Club Elan Saturday from 9 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Georgia-based MC made his solo debut on Def Jam Records but has branched out as a label boss and artist in his own right, collaborating with artists such as Jay-Z and Diddy, and earning several Grammy nominations. The event is 18 and up; tickets are $120 for general admission ages 18 to 20 and $80 for ages 21 and over. 

Rachael's picks: 

  • Support long time Savannah rock artist Keith Kozel at Music by Keith Kozel and Special Guests at Foxy Loxy Cafe on Friday from 7 to 11 p.m. The event is in conjunction with Power & Patience gallery show, a group of artists coming together and donating works of art to benefit Kozel's medical bills. Admission is free. 
  • Join in fellowship with others and Maggie Hayes for her artist talk at Sulfur Studios Saturday at 2 p.m. Maggie's On View art residency called "Unconditional Love Will Break Down The Hierarchy of Oppression" is centered around the benefits and necessity of moving towards a global community. Admission is free. 
  • Spend the night under the stars at Fire and Wine featuring Waits & Co. at Foxy Loxy Cafe on Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. The cafe will be hosting a special reunion of the group on the Acoustic Altar and will have fire pits, s'mores and half-off bottles of wine. Admission is free.
