The breakdown

1. Gov. Brian Kemp has filed to block a subpoena summoning him to provide testimony to the Fulton County special grand jury.

  • Internal tensions have gone public as District Attorney Fani Willis published a scathing letter to Kemp's attorney.
    • This comes after Kemp seemingly delayed a video testimony. Willis has since removed that option, forcing an in-person testimony.
  • Willis is expected to use Kemp's testimony to discover intent behind former President Trump's calls to his office after the 2020 election.
  • This comes a day after Rudy Giuliani arrived in Atlanta to testify after several delays. It's unknown what was discussed, but Giuliani was in court for six hours.

LISTEN: Former Rep. Buddy Darden says this bit of political theater will likely be resolved.

2. President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act, a sweeping bill that addresses health care costs, taxes on corporations and climate change.

  • Although Biden's wins have been overshadowed, the legislature could be an important boost to his low approval ratings.
  • The bill is expected to provide benefits for solar power and electric vehicle producers in Georgia.

LISTEN: Kevin Riley breaks down the reality of political messaging on economics.

3. A group of Trump supporters copied private Coffee County election data under the direction of a Trump attorney.

  • Trump attorney Sidney Powell directed SullivanStrickler, an Atlanta tech company, to copy data including management servers, ballot information, and memory cards from voting machines.
  • A spokesman for the secretary of state's office said, "Rogue election officials will not be tolerated in Georgia".

LISTEN: Buddy Darden compares election integrity concerns in Coffee County against Cobb.
