Why is Steven Spielberg coming to Columbus? The reason caused the venue to be changed
Primary Content
If you plan to attend this week’s artist talk at Columbus State University, you might want to get there as early as possible because the event just got more prestigious — and the venue has changed because of the increased interest.
Moderated by Columbus native Amy Sherald, who painted the official portrait of former first lady Michelle Obama, the Feb. 15 talk is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. and feature another Columbus native, Bo Bartlett, as well as Kate Capshaw and Joshua Michele Ross.
The venue was moved across the street from the CSU Bo Bartlett Center to the CSU Riverside Theatre Main Stage, 6 W. 10th. St., in downtown Columbus when organizers learned that Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg is expected to attend along with scores of other additional guests.
Spielberg is married to Capshaw, who is known for being an actor but also an artist. Her exhibition “Unaccompanied,” billed as an artistic outgrowth of Capshaw’s inquiry into the invisibility of youth experiencing homelessness, comprises 20 oil portraits, 18 studies and an audio component by Ross, a sound artist.
Her work will be on display at the center alongside Bartlett’s “Earthly Matters” exhibition, starting with a public reception Feb. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Attendance at the artist talk, reception and exhibitions is free and open to the public.
