Cheshire Bridge fire repairs could take 10 weeks

Repairs on Cheshire Bridge Road could take up to 10 weeks after a recent fire according to a member of Atlanta City Council.
Alex Wan represents District 6, where the bridge is located. He told constituents in a recent newsletter the initial plan was to keep one lane open, but it was ultimately determined to complete repairs all at once.
Wan said in the newsletter that he has been coordinating with a variety of agencies to assess the conditions and move forward.
“ATLDOT and I commit to remain vigilant during construction so that potential for delay is identified and addressed proactively,” he said.
Business owners near Cheshire Bridge are already reporting a loss of business due to the closure. Terri Stark, co-owner of The Laundry Lounge, said the business moved to this location only four months ago and they’re frustrated with the city.
“Until something is done to help the homeless and trying to get them out from underneath the bridges, we're concerned because it could be a reoccurring issue,” Stark said.
It's the not the first time Cheshire Bridge has had fire damage. It was burned in August 2021 and took 20 months to repair.
