In recent hearings on the 2023 farm bill, lawmakers in the U.S. House have discussed expanding crop insurance and trying to address the mounting challenges from drought, severe weather and climate change to the legislation. Pictured is a corn field south of Augusta.

Nearly half of Georgia is under drought conditions and farmers say some fields are a total loss. Corn crops are especially hard-hit.

Weather also is a concern for Atlanta's Peachtree Road Race, which ended early on July 4th this year because of excessive heat.

The American Society of Civil Engineers has given Georgia a C+ in their annual "infrastructure report card," released yesterday.
