Emory University Hospital and Emory Saint Joseph are Georgia’s No. 1 and 2 hospitals, according to new rankings from U.S. News & World Report

Emory University Hospital was also nationally ranked for their cancer care.

U.S. News offers rankings and ratings in three dozen different health care services, including cancer care, orthopedics, heart bypass surgery and much more. In each state and region, hospitals with a wide breadth of excellence are recognized as Best Regional Hospitals, and the best of them are also named to the national Honor Roll, none of which are in Georgia.

For the first time ever, U.S. News ranked hospitals on their work caring for patients in under served communities. Atlanta’s Grady Hospital received top honors in that category.

Grady Memorial Hospital serves many patients from underserved communities, patients with a low income, and patients from racial or ethnic minorities, said Min Hee Seo, a health data scientist with U.S. News.

Year over year volatility in Georgia is very minimal, Seo said.

"I see that there are not many changes in the rankings and how hospitals (in Georgia) are performing this year compared to last year," she said. "This year, for the first time, we added Medicare Advantage data in evaluating hospitals. So, we were using almost twice as much as data compared to last year's. Still, we didn't see much changes in rankings, which is a good thing."

U.S. News evaluated 172 hospitals in Georgia and ranked the 17 hospitals that met study standards to be recognized as Best Regional Hospitals.

U.S. News also ranked hospitals in the Atlanta and Augusta metro areas.
