Red Cross rescues Smyrna residents from homes after flash floods

The Greater Atlanta American Red Cross Chapter responded on the night of Tuesday, July 24, after several individuals had to be water-rescued from their homes following flash flooding at Coopers Creek Circle in Smyrna, Ga., just northwest of Atlanta.

"Red Cross volunteers as part of the Disaster Action Team were on the scene to help coordinate emergency aid to those affected," a press release statement said.

The team helped five families and provided the following:

• Comfort kits;
• Direct client assistance;
• Recovery planning for those families to meet their disaster-caused needs.

During this period of hurricane season and inclement weather, the American Red Cross is there to serve over 10 million Georgians through its eight state chapters, it said.

The chapters include:

• Central Midwest Georgia;
• East Central Georgia;
• Greater Atlanta;
• Northeast Georgia;
• Northwest Georgia;
• South Central Georgia;
• Southeast Georgia;
• Southwest Georgia.
