At an event on Friday morning, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp addressed attacks made by former President Donald Trump, calling them a "storm" and a "distraction" from a larger goal.

Kemp’s comments came at conservative radio host Erick Erickson’s The Gathering, where Republican leaders from around the country spoke in Atlanta, including Florida Gov. Ron Desantis and former Vice President Mike Pence.

"We had this big storm come through the state this week," Kemp said, adding, "and now we're dealing with Tropical Storm Debby."

Kemp also reiterated his support for Trump.

A lot of distractions, which, in my opinion, is not what we need to be doing right now in the presidential campaign or on any of the campaigns that we're running in the state of Georgia to keep our majorities in the [U.S.] House and in the Senate," Kemp said.

"And so, you know, despite all of that noise, my position has not changed," he said, emphasizing that he promised to support the Republican nominee during the primary process.

Trump called Kemp disloyal during his Aug. 3 Atlanta rally and alleged that the governor was trying to inhibit Republicans running for office.

"He's the most disloyal guy I think I've ever seen," Trump said.

Several Georgia business leaders have publicly supported Kemp amid the controversy.
