Georgians are preparing for dangerous floods, life-threatening winds and other hazards as Hurricane Helene moves toward landfall.

People lined up for sandbags to protect homes and businesses from rising waters. The worst flooding is expected in north Georgia.

The Red Cross and Georgia Emergency Management Agency have dozens of emergency shelters open, mostly in south Georgia.
