Macon residents have a chance to see Shonda Rhimes, trailblazing television writer and producer for shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, door-knocking to promote Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in Macon Wednesday afternoon.

Rhimes, an advocate for social justice in Hollywood, will canvass through neighborhoods starting at 12 p.m. with only a week until Election Day, according to a news release from the campaign. It is unclear where exactly she will be in the city.

She will discuss Harris’ New Way Forward agenda, meant to “lower costs, protect our freedoms and give every Georgian the chance to not just get by, but get ahead, which stands in stark contrast to Trump’s Project 2025 agenda that will raise costs on our families and rip away our freedoms,” the Harris campaign said in an email.

Rhimes, a Chicago native, will also canvass in Fayette County starting at 3 p.m.

The events will come a day after she speaks at a “When We All Vote Rally” in Atlanta, alongside former first lady Michelle Obama and other guests.

“So excited to stand alongside some powerful voices as we celebrate early voting and mobilize first-time voters,” Rhimes said on Instagram. “I’ll be making my plan to vote early and you should too ... Now is the time to lock it in.”

Rhimes is known for groundbreaking dramas that often showcase powerful women of color and LGBTQ+ people in spaces they were historically marginalized, such as England’s 1800s Regency era in Bridgerton. The Emmy Award-winning show How to Get Away with Murder also featured Viola Davis, the first Black woman to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress for her role as a criminal defense attorney and law professor.

With only a week until Election Day, Harris and her vice presidential running mate Gov. Tim Walz have brought on leaders from the entertainment industry to wrangle in a diverse range of supporters in Middle Georgia.

Uzo Aduba, best known for playing Suzanne Warren or Crazy Eyes in Orange is the New Black; and Danai Gurira, who plays leading roles in The Walking Dead and Black Panther, hit the campaign trail in Columbus on Oct. 22.

Bravo TV stars Dr. Jackie Walters, Dr. Heavenly Kimes and Dr. Shawana Moore also spoke in support of Harris’ plans to expand Black maternal health and reproductive rights in Atlanta on Oct. 19.
