A woman was killed in a motor vehicle accident Monday as Rome, Ga., as police responded to a bomb threat targeting U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who represents Georgia's 14th Congressional District.

That threat, an email which detailed a pipe bomb purportedly placed in Greene’s mailbox at her residence, prompted action from the Floyd County bomb squad which was dispatched to Greene's home, a press release from the lawmaker’s office said.

A member of the bomb squad was involved in a traffic accident en route, in which the driver of another vehicle involved, Tammie Pickelsimer, died, according to Rome police. The officer was not critically injured, a statement said.

“Unfortunately, this is not the first time the Rome Police Department has been dispatched to Congresswoman Greene's home,” the release said. “Since being elected to federal office, the Congresswoman has been swatted at least nine times.”

Greene was declared safe and police cleared the threat.

Greene’s office said the source of the email bomb threat was traced to a Russian IP address and that local and federal law enforcement, including the FBI, “will work to ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice.”

"I’m heartsick right now," Greene wrote on X. "I was just informed that an innocent woman died today in an auto accident involving a member of the Rome Police bomb squad who was responding to the threat at my home. My prayers are with Tammie Pickelsimer, her family, the officer who was injured, and the entire Rome Police Department."
