The National Weather Service in Peachtree City is warning Georgians to stay off roads across large portions of the state. 2 to 6 inches of snow is expected to fall in the Southwest region of the state, with 0 to 1 inch or more in Atlanta and suburbs.
A winter storm is affecting Georgia through Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025. Temperatures should rise above freezing in most areas by Thursday, Jan. 23. Gov. Brian Kemp has declared a statewide state of emergency Monday ahead of the impending freezing temperatures and winter weather expected to affect Georgia over the next few days.
Please plan accordingly if you will be outdoors. Prolonged exposure to below-freezing temperatures can cause frostbite. Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.
Check on vulnerable people to make sure they have adequately warm shelter indoors.
Bring pets inside.
To prevent water pipes from freezing, wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly.
Please follow these tips from GEMA as you prepare for the cold.
Here is a list of warming centers in Atlanta.
See important warnings and updates from state authorities below.
This is a developing story.

We want to emphasize that across much of north Georgia, the Atlanta metro, and points to the east and west including Athens, that if you do not have to be out on the roads, please stay home. Roads are very hazardous and we are seeing numerous accidents and closures. #gawx
