Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff held a constituent town hall at the Cobb Civic Center in Marietta on Friday morning.

The event lasted just over an hour, with about 40 minutes allotted to audience questions.

Among those in attendance were many expressed frustration with the Trump administration's cuts to USAID, NIH, the Department of Education and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — which is located in Atlanta — and other programs.

Ossoff said he is doing what he can to push back against those cuts.

“There is no button I can simply press that I am not pressing," he said, "or some tool of procedure I am not using that will reverse what they’re doing.”

"Ultimately, the only path out of this is to regain power in Congress," he said.

Ossoff is up for reelection next year. No serious challengers have declared their candidacy for his seat yet, but Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, who is term-limited, is rumored to be considering a Senate run.

"Do not forget your power as citizens," he said in a closing answer to a question. "In this country, the power is still with the people."

Other recent town hall events have been held by Georgia Republicans, including U.S. Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Rich McCormick
