Girl + Environment founder and executive director Diamond Spratling says Georgia clean energy jobs will be affected by Trump administration cuts in a press conference May 5, 2025.
Environmental advocacy groups in Georgia are calling on Congress to ensure that clean energy initiatives continue to be funded.
Diamond Spratling, the founder and executive director of the climate nonprofit Girl + Environment, said that jobs in the clean energy sector are on the line.
“Clean energy jobs are not just a career path," she said. "They are a pathway to justice, dignity and economic liberation for so many communities, especially young people of color."
President Donald Trump’s proposed budget significantly reduces funding for environmental protection and other environmental initiatives.
According to the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, as of 2024, 82,000 Georgians held clean energy jobs. Another report by the group Climate Power puts Georgia in the top 10 states with the most clean energy jobs lost or threatened by federal cuts.
