The Dali was headed for Norfolk, Va., to have roughly 1,500 cargo containers off-loaded to reduce draft then undergo continued salvage and repairs from damage caused during the bridge collapse.
There aren't many cranes that have a storied history like the Chesapeake 1000 — nicknamed "Chessy" — which has been brought in to clear Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge.
Experts said if the Key Bridge had been fitted with more robust collision-prevention structures, the collapse might have been avoided. Records indicate the protections weren't significantly altered.
