In a ruling stemming from protests of the murder of George Floyd, a federal judge ordered police in the Ohio city to stop using tear gas, pepper spray and rubber bullets against nonviolent protesters.
"We want to be partners with the DOJ to bring about meaningful, sustainable and significant reforms," the mayor's letter says. It comes a week after 16-year-old Ma'Khia Bryant was killed by police.
The Columbus Division of Police released silent video of the fatal shooting Wednesday. The officer who fired the shots has been placed on paid administrative leave.
