The parole panel's recommendation to release Sirhan, 77, in August was based in part on new California laws since he was last denied parole in 2016 — the 15th time he'd lost his bid for release.
"Californians want better and need better from their politicians," the 71-year-old Republican said. The state's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, is likely to face a recall election this year.
Newsom said on Twitter that his children came into contact with a California Highway Patrol officer who tested positive for the virus. He said everyone in his family has tested negative so far.
