The Georgia Republican Party’s state convention returns to Columbus this week, but unlike last year, the 2024 edition won’t feature former President Donald Trump among the speakers.

Gov. Brian Kemp will not attend this year's state Republican convention, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. 

Trump's campaign has long wanted a sports arena packed to the rafters, but the president concedes in an interview that the worsening Florida outbreak may force those plans to shift.

Mayor Sylvester Turner announced the move on Wednesday, as the city reported hundreds of new cases of COVID-19.
