The Georgia Senate voted Thursday on a measure that could create a new city in Gwinnett County. GPB’s Amanda Andrews reports the bill passed despite pushback.

A Senate committee voted 4-3 to send a bill to expand the Gwinnett County Commission from five members to nine and make the chairperson a non-voting member. 

State Sen. Emanuel Jones, D-Decatur, said Dixon’s bill is designed to dilute minority voting power in one of the state’s most diverse counties.
