Friday on Political Rewind: In a trial already infused with questions about racism, a defense lawyer added fuel to the fire yesterday with comments about the presence of Black religious leaders in the courtroom. Georgia Today: Remembering Max Cleland, a life strong in the broken places

This week, Georgians around the state are remembering Max Cleland. He died of congestive heart failure at his home in Atlanta on Tuesday. He was 79. Cleland was a Democrat and lifelong public servant in a variety of roles, including U.S. senator and head of the Veterans Administration under President Jimmy Carter. Jim Galloway, a now-retired Atlanta Journal-Constitution journalist, says Cleland’s politics were influenced by his military service. He lost three limbs in the Vietnam War. Georgia Today explores Cleland's life and legacy with Galloway, who also knew Cleland as a friend.

Mental health and addiction care aren't prioritized in Georgia. A bipartisan group is changing that

Parity in health care means substance misuse treatment and heart defects should be treated the same way by insurance companies. A federal parity law passed in 2008, but there is no mechanism to ensure parity is enforced in Georgia. A plan presented Nov. 10 at the state Capitol seeks to change that.

Attorney: No more 'Black pastors' in court for Arbery case

An attorney for one of three white men standing trial in the death of Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia says he doesn't want "any more Black pastors" in the courtroom. Attorney Kevin Gough made the comment to the trial judge Thursday, a day after the Rev. Al Sharpton sat in back of the courtroom with Arbery's parents.
