China launched major military drills around Taiwan on Tuesday, simulating attacks and maritime blockades, in what Beijing called a warning after Taiwan's president labeled China a hostile foreign force.

The air force said the jets were taking part in a drill with the U.S. military in Pocheon, a city close to the border with North Korea, when they dropped bombs just outside a firing range.

The drills are a warning to Taiwan's new president, who this week called on China in his inaugural address to cease its intimidation of Taiwan.
