More doses of the vaccine to prevent monkeypox are on the way as cases rise in Georgia. The initial shipment of nearly 14,000 shots is already gone.

Since May, when this monkeypox outbreak was discovered, cases have exploded in a short period of time, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health — and are probably undercounted.

The testing system set up by the CDC actually deters doctors from ordering a monkeypox test, and many physicians aren't familiar with the disease, resulting in too few tests and little tracking.
