A giant sinkhole swallowed the center of a soccer complex that was built over an operating limestone mine in southern Illinois, leaving a gaping chasm where kids often play. No injuries were reported.
What began as a deep but much smaller hole in front of Sufi’s Kitchen on Peachtree Road in Buckhead on Friday, has now turned into a large sinkhole that swallowed the Persian restaurant’s sign on Monday afternoon. It’s also threatening neighboring restaurants R. Thomas Deluxe Grille and Bell Street Burritos as well as the southbound lanes of Peachtree Road.
A huge sinkhole that seemed stable for 15 years suddenly began expanding about a week ago, growing by several acres and leaving nearby residents terrified that it will take them and their homes.
