The public has voted and the spotless superstar born at a family-owned zoo in Tennessee has been named Kipekee.

Mundi the African elephant was the pride of Puerto Rico's only zoo. But her fate became entangled in the island's recent struggles with natural disasters and a debilitating debt crisis.

At least 100 animals, all kept inside enclosures, will have gone more than three weeks without food or water, said the head zoologist at the zoo.
