GPB Sports is looking for Georgia high school football players who are having a great season and career but who may need a little help getting noticed by recruiters. Here are our nominees for the week of November 13, 2023.

 

Amare Shelley, Macon County, ATH, SR

Amare Shelley is a 5'9 170 LBS Senior Athlete at Macon County High School. At wide receiver, he has a total of 11 Receptions for 257 yards, averaging 23.4 yards a catch and 28.6 yards a game, with 70 yards being the longest. Rushing, Shelley has a total of 125 yards with six carries and averages 20.8 yards, the longest at 48 yards. On defense he has 33 tackles and three interceptions, two of which ended up being touchdowns. Shelley runs track and is a member of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Future Farmers of America (FFA), and National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). Last year, he was named Player of the Game for his outstanding defense. His hobbies include basketball, video games hanging with friends/teammates and taking care of his dog Rascal.

Shelley hopes to attend college on an athletic scholarship but has yet to receive an offer.

Tarrill Hall, Jonesboro, LB, SR  

Tarrill Hall is a 6'1 175 LBS Senior Linebacker at Jonesboro High School. Described as a rangy LB with speed, he's known to be resilient and refuses to be denied. His position coach says he steps up week by week as a leader for the team's linebacker group. With his senior leadership, they look to continue to make strides in the playoffs.

Jimmy Dawson, Thomas County Central, OLB/DE, SR

Jimmy Dawson Jr. is a 6'1 215 LBS Senior Outside Linebacker and Defensive End at Thomas County Central. Since he was released to return to the field, Dawson has picked up 27 tackles (16 solo, 11 assist), two sacks, one interception and five tackles for loss as senior. The 3.3 GPA honor roll student is a member of the Omega Lamplighters Mentoring Program and hopes to play at the next level, where he hopes to earn a degree in sports science. In his free time, he enjoys hanging out with his teammates.

Daimir Hicks, Calvary Day, FS, SO

Daimir Hicks is a Sophomore Free Safety at Calvary Day School. The 5'10 160 LBS varsity starter is described as a physical defensive back who doesn't mind coming down hill to lay a big hit. So far this year, he has three interceptions and regularly plays lights out, as the Cavaliers head into round two of the playoffs.

Mataye Youman, Harris County, LB/RB, SR

Mataye Youman is a 5'11 235 LBS Senior Linebacker and Running Back at Harris County High School. He's become a major asset for the Tigers team since taking on the role as a varsity starter during his sophomore year. Youman is a true captain that reads offenses like no other, and can direct the defense in ways that are not seen in an average LB. During his sophomore season, he showed his impact on the field by leading his team in tackles. As a junior, he earned 5A Region 3 Defensive Player of the Year, Defensive First Team All Tri City, First Team All Chattahooche Valley, Sport Vision Defensive MVP and won the WTVM sports overtime play of the week with over 1200 votes. As a senior, his responsibility has expanded to the offensive side of the ball at the RB position where he ended the regular season with 1,094 yards. Youman is described as a downhill runner that initiates contact with anybody that attempts to tackle him. Many refer to him as the “BUS,” after his favorite running back Jerome Bettis. Youman's hard work is not limited to the football field. He has a 3.5 GPA and plays varsity soccer and basketball. He is said to be the hardest worker and leader on the Harris County football team and helped rally his team to a region championship this season. Youman has continued to lead his team during the playoffs, in the Tigers' first round win against OLA, he had four touchdowns and rushed for 200 yards.

Dylan Morehead, Kennesaw Mountain, G/C, SR

Dylan Morehead is a 6'2 315 LBS Guard and Center at Kennesaw Mountain High School. Morehead has played football for eight years, including with his community team from 2017-2020. The starter plays multiple positions for the Mustangs, but really thrives as an offensive lineman. Morehead is described as a young man with wisdom, compassion, and perseverance beyond his years. Despite facing many hardships throughout his football career, he has continued to push forward and work harder on and off the field.

As a student-athlete, Morehead maintains a 3.4 GPA while working part-time to help at home and to assist with his college expenses. Dylan is looking forward to attending college and majoring in mechanical engineering and cyber security.

Joshua Waymack, Lanier Christian Academy, OG/OT, JR

Joshua Waymack is an Offensive Guard and Offensive Tackle at Lanier Christian Academy in Flowery Branch, Georgia. The 6’5 345 LBS junior has over 25 pancakes, has allowed for one sack and five hurries throughout 11 games. This year, the three-year varsity starter led and encouraged his injury-bugged team into a playoff berth against a huge rival-region opponent! The scholar-athlete has a 3.9 GPA and takes Honors/AP courses. He currently has no offers.

Jamarcus Hester, Winder Barrow, MLB/OLB, JR

Jamarcus Hester is a 6'1 220 LBS Middle Linebacker and Outside Linebacker at Winder Barrow High School. The junior team leader says he is continually working to be the QB of his defense and learn everyone's job. Hester has been invited to the MCA Rising Senior Bowl and is excited to see how the program helps him prepare for senior year. In the spring, he plans to participate in track & field, and physically get bigger and faster for his final year of football. Off the field, he has 3.0 GPA and plans to major in business, in hopes of creating his own clothing company.
