On Day 10 of the 2024 Georgia legislative session, the House finished business quickly while the Senate debated several controversial bills related to elections and the duties of elected officials. 

The first, Senate Resolution 465, created a special senate committee to investigate Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. 

Democrats said the committee is unnecessary and politically motivated.  

Next, senators voted on SB 358, which would remove Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger from the board of elections. It would also give the board power to investigate him.  

Raffensperger has called the bill unconstitutional. 

And finally, the Senate addressed SB 355, a bill that would prohibit “ranked choice” voting.  

Advocates say ranked choice voting would be too confusing, take too long to tally results, and too costly to instigate.  

Sen. Randy Rbertson (R-Catuala) said, "Ranked choice voting is a way to manipulate elections so that individuals who want to vote for their person are disenfranchised from being able to do it.”

Democrats said it could save millions of tax dollars by eliminating runoffs and help end voter fatigue during elections.  

All three — SR 465, SB 358 and SB 355 passed along party lines.   

In the afternoon, House Democrats held a press conference advocating for what they call 'common sense gun laws'. 

Also, state representative Charlice Byrd (R- Woodstock) released articles of impeachment against Fani Willis.
