The Breakdown: Blue Devils In The Eagles Nest
Primary Content
Two-time defending state champion Norcross makes its first appearance of the season on GPB this Friday night as the Blue Devils travel to Alpharetta to take on the Milton Eagles. It all starts at 7:00 p.m. with GPB’s All Access Pass pre-game show and then Larry Smith and former Atlanta Falcons star DE Chuck Smith will call the action to kickoff week two of Football Fridays in Georgia.
Coming off state championships in 2012 and ’13, Norcross has started the 2014 season 2-0 with a 32-29 victory over Tucker, followed by a 21-10 win vs. Brookwood. Led by Coach Keith Maloof, holding a 145-62 overall record in his 19th season, the Blue Devils are 30-2 over the past 2+ seasons and have become one of the top programs not only in Georgia but in the entire nation.
Milton enters Friday’s game 1-0 after defeating Alpharetta 17-10 this past Friday night. The Eagles are coming off an 8-3 season under fourth-year Coach Howie DeCristofaro (20-14). The eight-win season was just the sixth time in Milton’s 63-year football history that the Eagles had won as many as eight games in a season.
This will be the ninth all-time meeting between these two teams but the first since 1979. Norcross leads the series 7-1.
Players to Watch: The top two recruiting prospects on the field Friday night will be on the Milton side of the ball. The Eagles boast 4-star OLB Quarte Sapp. Sapp is the #23 OLB in the 247 Sports Composite rankings and his many offers include Tennessee, Miami and Georgia Tech. Four-star Nick Wilson committed to Stanford on July 4 and is the #22 OG in the composite rankings. Also, keep an eye on Eagles' 3-star athlete Obe Fortune. His offers include Wake Forest, Minnesota and Iowa State.
Norcross doesn’t quite have the recruiting firepower that they’ve displayed over the last two seasons when top national prospects like DE Lorenzo Carter, RB Alvin Kamara and WR/RB Myles Autry led the Blue Devils to back-to-back state titles. But the Blue Devils are still loaded with talent.
You will want to watch for 2-star WR Jared Pinkney whose offers include Georgia State, Minnesota and Marshall; 2-star DT D’Andre Plantin who also has numerous offers including Georgia State, Georgia Southern and Virginia; plus DE J.B. Kouassi who has also been offered by the Panthers, Eagles and Kent State among others.
Another great edition of Football Fridays in Georgia rolls your way this Friday, starting live at 7:00 p.m. from the Eagles Nest in Alpharetta. Be sure to tune in!
