MARTA’s airport station closed for six-week renovation

MARTA has closed its station at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport from starting today until May 19 for renovations.

Renovation work will include floor tile replacements on the station’s concourse and platform levels, as well as preparations for a new canopy structure.

According to MARTA, the six-week closure will help to reduce the overall time of construction work by 17 months, while also ensuring safety for both customers and workers.

During the closure, shuttle services between College Park Station and the airport will be provided, although MARTA suggests that travelers give themselves more time when heading to their flights.

The bus shuttle between College Park Station and the North Terminal Lower Level will arrive and depart from the downstairs from North Baggage Claim, 22 hours a day, 4 a.m. to 2 a.m.  

If you’re flying in or heading home from your job at the airport, follow the signs to Ground Transportation and North Baggage Claim. “MARTA Shuttle to Train” signs will lead downstairs to the North Terminal Lower Level where you can board the shuttle between doors LN1 and LN2.

“MARTA remains an efficient and inexpensive way to get to and from the airport, whether you work there or are traveling,” Collie Greenwood, general manager and chief executive officer of MARTA, said in a press release.

“We will be providing easily accessible shuttle service for travelers and airport employees between College Park Station and the airport so we can safely complete this necessary work at Airport Statio,” Greenwood said. “We ask that if you’re headed to the airport for your shift or to catch a flight, you give yourself an extra 30 minutes to account for the adjustment to our service.”

The construction is part of a series of rehabilitation work MARTA has been conducting at the airport station since 2022.

Some of the completed construction includes electrical upgrades, vestibule replacements and structural work in preparation for a new elevator installation.

Other work MARTA is planning for the station includes new ceilings and lighting, a public art installation, renovated employee spaces, an updated elevator and more.
