Sen. Jon Ossoff visited the U.S. Postal Service’s Palmetto facility Wednesday after months of reported delays in mail delivery. Issues at the mail sorting facility have affected deliveries statewide.
Ossoff visited Palmetto outside of peak hours and said while there were no obvious signs of dysfunction he will continue to advocate for Georgians.
“I will continue to apply maximum pressure to hold the Postmaster General accountable for his obligation to my constituents,” he said in a news conference outside the facility.
60% of mail is now delivered on time, according to Ossoff, up from just 36% in April. In the April Senate committee meeting, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said that the Palmetto facility would be up to speed within 90 days. The deadline is fast approaching.
Ossoff said management is the problem, not postal workers. He also said that based on his conversations with employees at the facility, no single person was in charge of the consolidation process in Palmetto, leading to confusion and delays.
