The Georgia Stories series, originally produced by Georgia Public Broadcasting in the 1990s, will be updated to more closely align to the current Georgia Standards of Excellence. The new video series will also include more recent Georgia history and changes to its original format to engage a new generation of scholars.

All eighth grade students in Georgia public schools are required to take a course in Georgia history. To support that required course, GPB produced Georgia Stories, a series of short-form videos that illustrate the history and economic development of our state with archival film, photographs, interviews, and dramatic reenactments of events. The series has provided a library of over 170 videos, educator resources, and primary source material to educators and students across the country.

The documentary-style program has received over 2.3 million digital views in just the last 10 years and has won state, national, and international awards for excellence in educational programming.

GBP Education will work with the Georgia Department of Education and teachers in Georgia to create more engaging video content for Georgia Studies instruction. "We are excited to work closely with educators and content experts to develop a fresh series to better support the study of our state," says Mary Anne Lane, Director of Educational Content at GPB. 

The new series is expected to launch in the fall of 2026.
