The Georgia Department of Transportation said Thursday, July 11, that westbound lanes on Interstate 16 at Savannah's Chatham Parkway overpass will be closed through the weekend.
Chatham Parkway over I-16 is fully closed in both directions. G-DOT said it has not determined when it will reopen.
Inspections are ongoing on the overpass after a vehicle transporting a piece of construction equipment struck the overpass Thursday.
The agency said three beams of the overpass were significantly damaged and one is under evaluation.
Official said they expect to open I-16 by Monday morning.
