On July 13th GPB hosted Explore your City with Alma’s Way in collaboration with MARTA and Fred Rogers Production at the MARTA Arts Center Station in Midtown. The event is inspired by one of PBS’ newest shows: Alma’s Way

Alma’s Way is an animated series from Fred Rogers Productions, the creators of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, that appears on PBS. Alma is a young Puerto Rican Girl who lives in the Bronx with her family. She lives among a diverse group of friends and community members, and is always curious about the world around her.

The event featured organizations such as MODA, Midtown Alliance, Fulton County Library, and Atlanta’s Regional Commission.  Families got the chance to see hip hop dancing and even dance along with the FyreNation Crew.   All organizations brought a variety of activities, like mini-golf, a hands-on urban planning activity, and crafts to be done at home. Families also participated in a group mural drawing, bubble-making, and chalk drawing.

Besides these amazing activities, families had the opportunity to meet two of MARTA’s female train conductors, like Alma’s aunt, and participate in a dance cypher with Fire Nation. Families were mesmerized by the moves of the dancers, and some kids were even inspired to join in. Children also created their own train cars, like the train that Alma rides often.  You can see photos of the event here.

This event truly allowed families to learn more about the various programs offered around Atlanta and explore their city. If you want to explore Atlanta further, MARTA is always an excellent resource. Plan your next trip and learn more about their routes here.
