Summer Camp Search: Keeping Students Active Through the Summer

Summer is right around the corner and can be a time when you are scrambling, trying to find constructive and meaningful activities for your children. Enrolling your children in a summer camp is a great way to keep children active and thinking throughout long periods away from school. Below is a list of some great summer camps throughout Georgia. Hopefully, it can help you find the perfect place to address your child’s needs and interests.
STEM Summer Programs
Mercer Youth Programs: Mercer University offers highly interactive courses for elementary and middle school students in the areas of science, math and creative writing. These courses last for 3-4 weeks beginning in July and are offered in Macon, Henry County, Douglas County and Atlanta (science not offered at the Atlanta location).
UGA Summer Academy: UGA Summer Academy caters to middle school and high school students that have a variety of interests. Whether your child is a future doctor, musician or engineer, UGA has over 30 diverse summer courses that are sure to meet your child’s interest. Classes for the UGA Summer Academy tend to fill up quickly so visit their website and register your child as soon as possible!
Georgia Tech’s CEISMC Summer PEAKS: Georgia Tech offers highly interactive summer courses for middle and high school students in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math at the Georgia Tech campus in Atlanta, Georgia. Georgia Tech also offers STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) classes during the summer for pre-kindergartners, elementary and middle school students in their Full STEAM Ahead summer program in Savannah, Georgia.
English Language Arts and Foreign Language Camps
Shakespeare Superheroes: With one location in Cobb County and another in Dekalb, Shakespeare Superheroes introduces kids ages 4-14 to the works and language of Shakespeare in fun and imaginative ways. All students are welcomed and enrollment is offered on a first come, first serve basis.
Atlanta International School Summer Language Camp: Atlanta International School offers language classes in the areas of English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese and English as a Second Language for grades K-12. The school will be hosting an open house on May 18 and camp begins in July.
Social Science Camps
Peacebuilders Camp: Located in Americus, Georgia, Peacebuilders is a camp for students ages 11-14. This camp uses activities and games to foster discussions about global issues and inspires students to effect social change globally as well as in their own communities.
Atlanta History Center and Margaret Mitchell House: Steeped in writing and history, Atlanta History Center expands their campers’ creativity through exploring various historic time periods and prominent historic figures. Classes are available for children between the ages of 6-14 but are age specific. To see what classes are available for your child, check their website.
Athletic Summer Camps
Introduction to Martial Arts Summer Camp: The Welch Martial Experience offers summer camp for children ages 6-12. Located in Buckhead, this camp provides students with a basic introduction to different forms of martial arts.
PGA Junior Golf Camps: PGA Junior Golf Camps offer half and full day sessions that guarantee skill development in fundamental areas of golf for ages 7-17. This golf camp offers classes at two Atlanta golf courses, Bear’s Best and Mystery Valley.
Camps for Children with Special Needs
Camp Dream: Located in historic Warm Springs, Georgia, Camp Dream is a traditional summer camp that offers a wonderful experience for children and young adults with moderate to severe developmental disabilities. Activities include swimming, fishing, bowling and boating to name a few.
Camp Hawkins: Camp Hawkins is a summer residential camp for individuals with disabilities ages 8-21 with one location in Mount Airy, Georgia and another in Baxley, Georgia.
