On Oct. 2, the NCAA announced that Berry College, located in Rome, Ga., was selected to host the Division III Men's and Women's Tennis Championship in 2028 at the Rome Tennis Center on the college's campus.

According to a press release, the NCAA received over 1,200 bids from member schools, conferences, cities, and sports commissions throughout 47 states and Washington, D.C, "all competing to host predetermined rounds for 87 of the NCAA's 90 championships."

"The enthusiasm and interest from around the country to host NCAA championships continues to be a testament to the quality of our events," Lynda Tealer, NCAA senior vice president of championships, said in a statement.

The United States Tennis Association recognizes the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College as an Outstanding Facility.

The Rome facility is the country's largest single-surface facility, with 57 courts across 30 acres.

"Our partnership with Rome Tennis Center, Berry College, the community-at-large, and our incredible collegiate fan base ensures an unrivaled and memorable championship experience for the student-athletes like no other," said Ann Hortman, Rome Sports director.

The facility was built in 2013 on property donated by Berry College as part of a special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) project.

Rome City Manager Sammy Rich expressed the city's honor at being chosen to host the "prestigious event."

"We take pride in sharing our city and facilities with the teams and fans and showcasing our renowned southern hospitality," Rich said.
