Dublin coach Roger Holmes and Maynard Jackson coach Eric Williams posted milestone victories this week, while Wilcox County earned its 400th all-time victory. 

Holmes earned his 200th career victory in Georgia when Dublin defeated Northeast 17-7 on Friday. Williams earned No. 100 when Jackson defeated Forest Park 43-0 on Saturday.

Holmes is in his 23rd season at Dublin, where he has compiled a record of 200-73-1 with nine region championships and two state titles – 2006 and 2019.

Dublin has flourished since Holmes arrived at the middle Georgia school in 2002 and installed his wing-T offense. That first team went 14-1, losing in the championship game to Screven County. The Fighting Irish have only missed the playoffs three times during his tenure.

Holmes previously coached at Beech High in Hendersonville, Tenn., where his teams went 73-49.

Williams has spent his entire career as a head coach at Maynard Jackson, which was known as Southside until 2007. This is his 21st season and he has taken the school to the state playoffs in nine of the last 10 seasons.

This year’s team is off to a 6-1 start, matching its previous best start in 1993. The Jaguars’ best season was in 2017 when they went 9-3 and reached the second round of the playoffs.

He is the second-winningest active coach in the Atlanta Public Schools system behind Darren Miles, who is in his 22nd season at Carver.

 

Wilcox County

The Wilcox County football program celebrated its 400th victory on Oct, 11, 2024 by defeating rival Dooly County 47-7.

The Wilcox County Patriots reached the 400th win milestone last week with their 41-7 victory over Dooly County.

The Wilcox County program began in 1956 by coach Mike Jones, who is still living in Greene County The school has won 14 region championships, won the state championship in 2009 and was runner-up in 2007. The Patriots have made eight Final Four appearances.

Coach Donnie Clack, the coach from 1980-1998, had a 140-75-3 record with six region titles, three semifinals and 28 playoff games. Coach Mark Ledford was head coach from 2001-2017, had a 112-82-1 record with five region, one state championship, one runner-up, three semifinals and 25 playoff games.

Current coach Rob Stowe is in his sixth season as head coach and has a 47-22 record, including 4-3 this season. His teams have won two region titles and made one semifinal appearance.

Among the notable players who have come through the program are Bobby Gibbs (Georgia), Alfred Rawls (Kentucky), Ronnie West (Pittsburgh State/Kansas), Alfonzo Dennard (Nebraska), Deauntay Legrier (Western Michigan), Johnny Dwight (Alabama), Nick Marshall (Auburn), Desmond Tisdol (Auburn, FAU), Abe Stowe (Shorter College), B.J. Gibson (Florida State), Mark McCall (East Carolina), Bug Howard (North Carolina), Marty Thrower Kentucky), Branson Owens (Army) and Johnny Dixon (Western Illinois).
