There are some big games this week in the next-to-last week of the regular season for high school football, but none may be bigger than the Class 6A showdown between No. 1 Carrollton and No. 3 Douglas County.

Carrollton (9-0, 3-0) will travel to Douglasville to play Douglas County (8-1, 3-0) to determine the Region 2-6A title. The winner will earn the right to host the first two rounds of the playoffs, which start on Nov. 15-16.

The Carrollton-Douglas County game will be featured on GPB’s Football Fridays in Georgia telecast.

Here are four other outstanding games for this weekend:

Valdosta at Lowndes: The annual “Winnersville Classic” will help determine the Region 1-6A championship. It’s the first time the two South Georgia powers – both 8-1 overall, 3-1 in region competition -- have played each other in the season finale since 2001.  Valdosta is ranked No. 8 and Lowndes is No. 10 in the GPB Rankings. Colquitt County, which hosts Richmond Hill, is also 3-1 in the region and remains in contention for the top seed.

Valdosta leads the series 39-23 and has won the last two meetings, including 37-27 in 2023.

Roswell at Milton: This is the resumption of one of the North Metro’s oldest and most intense rivalries and this time the Region 7-5A championship is on the line. No. 1-ranked Milton, the defending state champion, is 9-0 and 5-0 in league play. No. 5 Roswell (8-1, 5-0) set up the showdown by beating No. 6 Gainesville 48-45 on GPB’s Football Friday’s in Georgia. Click here to watch a replay of that thriller.

Roswell leads the series 38-30-1 but Milton has won the last five meetings, including 34-14 in 2023. The series dates to 1950 and the teams have played every year since 1970.

Morgan County at Callaway: The Region 2-2A title will be determined by the winner of this game. No. 4 Morgan County (9-0, 4-0) is trying to win its second consecutive region championship. No. 8 Callaway (7-2, 4-0) has won seven straight since opening the season with two losses. This will be the first meeting between the schools.

Brooks County at Irwin County: There are always late-season theatrics in the “Region of Doom.” Class A Division II No. 3 Brooks County (6-3, 4-0) can clinch first place with a victory. No. 5 Irwin County (8-1, 3-1) can create a three-way tie for first place in Region 2 with a victory. Clinch County (7-1, 2-1) has beaten Irwin County and lost to Brooks County and remains in the mix.

Greene County at Lincoln County: The Class A Division II Region 8 championship is on the line at Larry Campbell Stadium. No. 6 Lincoln County (8-0, 3-0) can clinch first place with a victory, but No. 7 Greene County (7-1, 2-0) must beat the Red Devils and defeat Warren County in the season finale to take the outright title. Greene County won last year’s game 28-3.
