SciTech Now Podcast: Marvel's "All-New, All-Different" Comic Books
Primary Content
Not content with owning your summers at the movie theaters since "Iron Man" premiered in 2008, Marvel now wants to go back to square one with the comic book superheroes that inspire its movies.
Marvel recently announced the forthcoming "All-New, All-Different" comic series that will provide new stories and roles for some of its beloved characters, such as Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Daredevil, Wolverine and Captain Marvel, to name just a handful. It's a development on par with the Secret Wars series launch earlier this year, and it's a way for the company to introduce fresh angles and storylines for their longtime characters.
In this podcast, GPB talks to Jami Jones, manager of Galactic Quest Comics in Lawrenceville. The store has played a major role for geek culture fans in North Georgia since the 1990s, and Jones has worked with groups trying to advocate for more women reading and creating comics. She talks about the risk Marvel is taking by pointing its familiar characters in new directions, and what the potential payoffs could be in attracting younger audiences.
