Carver used a dominant defensive performance and a four-touchdown performance from quarterback Matthew Mungin to crush Burke County 52-14 and win the Class 2A championship on Tuesday.

It was the second state championship for Carver, whose other title came in 2007.

Carver (14-1) limited Burke County to five first downs and 145 total yards. The Tigers forced six three-and-outs, recorded eight tackles for loss and one sack, and got an 18-yard pick-six from Zay Billingsley.

The Carver offense was led by Mungin, who completed 19 of 20 passes for 327 yards and four touchdowns – 7, 21 and 54 yards to Kei’Maurii Miles and 30 yards to Braylon Jakes. Miles had seven receptions for 179 yards and Jakes had seven catches for 90 yards.

Keiston Tarver ran eight times for 79 yards and one touchdown, a 16-yarder.

Burke County (13-2) connected on a 71-yard touchdown pass from Sean Vandiver to Joshua Arroyo. That pass accounted for nearly half of the team’s total offense.

Carver had only 35 tackles – Burke ran just 37 plays -- with Antavoius Watts and Kolin Hodge each getting four. The Burke County defense was led by Dexter Byrnes with 12 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss and Chris Flournoy with nine tackles.
