Get Antiques Roadshow Ready With Our Savannah Favorites
Primary Content
In case you haven’t heard, Antiques Roadshow is coming to Savannah this month! On April 29, Georgians with an array of items will descend upon the Hostess City of the South for a day of antiques, appraisals, and celebrating one of our favorite shows on GPB. Of course, GPB will be on hand to help the Roadshow crew and meet all of you at the Georgia State Railway Museum, and we’re counting down the days by checking out some of the best Savannah episodes and clips our website and GPB Passport have to offer. Here are some of our favorites:
View Finders
As hosts Chris Greer and Paul Daniel travel across the U.S. in Season 3 of View Finders currently airing Monday nights on GPB-TV, you may remember back in Season 2 where they visited Savannah. They travel to the riverfront, to locations of historic squares and cemeteries, to a lighthouse and beyond. For me, it’s like I’m right there with them, experiencing the beauty and diversity of the city and its surroundings.
A Fork in the Road
Host David Zelski is no stranger to Savannah: on his show and podcast A Fork in the Road, he visits various farms, businesses, and locations in and around Savannah to meet the people who bring Georgia grown products to Georgians across the state and beyond. A favorite feature of mine is found in an episode devoted to grilling, where David visits Savannah's Candy Kitchen and learns how their famous pralines are made. Incidentally, I now hope to make a stop here before returning to Atlanta to try the pralines for myself.
Georgia Outdoors
Like David Zelski on A Fork in the Road, host Sharon Collins is also no stranger to Savannah as Georgia Outdoors has taken her and her team to the region many times over the course of the show’s seasons. One of her favorite memories features the Cockspur Island Lighthouse, marking the entrance to the Savannah River for over a century.
Reconnecting Roots
In Season 4 of the TV series devoted to telling the American journey, host Gabe McCauley breaks bread with chef Mashama Bailey in her Savannah dinner destination, The Grey, and helps her prepare one of the favorite dishes based on regional ingredients. He also learns how American mealtimes and food choices have evolved over the years.
Stream Reconnecting Roots now on GPB Passport.
Samantha Brown's Places to Love
In Season 6, Samantha Brown visits Savannah to learn that what the city is known for may not be what it represents for residents and visitors today. From art to cuisine, history to leadership, she shows how Savannah is more than its Spanish moss.
Antiques Roadshow: Vintage Savannah
And of course, no watch list would be complete without revisiting Antiques Roadshow's last visit to Savannah! I wonder what some of these items would be appraised for 22 years later.
This program is only available to stream via GPB Passport.
