Spring is the perfect time of year to experience Augusta’s repertoire of Arts & Cultural events! Here are some of this week’s highlights, courtesy of GPB-Augusta’s team of interns from Augusta University: Alexandria Bennett, Haley Harris, and Jamie Sapp.

The Dating Doctor: David Coleman Tired of being single and need helping finding your soul mate? Here is an opportunity to meet the real-life Hitch. “David Coleman: The Dating Doctor” is coming to Augusta University Tuesday from 7-8:30. The event is at the Douglas Barnard Amphitheater located on AU’s Summerville Campus. More information on the Augusta University events calendar page.
(Thu 04/28) - Undercover Artists Show Thursday evening at 7, the Walton Foundation celebrates their 10th annual “Undercover Artists Show”, supporting traumatic brain injury programs. It’s at the Legends Club on Washington road. This year’s theme is “An Evening In Paris”, and includes food, drink, and local artists offer their work for sale, “ undercover”. (Thu 04/28) - Symphony Orchestra Augusta: ABBA
|Fan of ABBA? Thursday evening at 7:30, Symphony Orchestra Augusta presents “Arrival, The Music of ABBA,” with the world’s foremost Swedish tribute band, “Arrival”, performing songs from the legendary band ABBA. It takes place at the Bell Auditorium, 712 Telfair Street. More details at soaugusta.org.
(Fri 04/29) - Art at Lunch: The Forest In The Sea This Friday at noon, the Morris Museum of Art presents “The Forest In The Sea,” a lecture on Philip Juras’ artwork. The event features Dr. Janice Simon, associate professor of art history at the University of Georgia. Pre-registration is required by April 27. The museum is at Tenth and Reynolds Street in Augusta. (Fri & Sat 04/29-04/30) Dance Augusta Spring Fever
It’s a chance to catch “Spring Fever” with a performance featuring Karen Gordon and Garden City Jazz on Friday and Saturday evening at 7. The event is at the Augusta Ballet School on Walton Way. Karen and her jazz ensemble play sets designed for dancing all night, along with other acts that are featured throughout the evening. Tickets and info at DanceAugusta.org.
(Sat 04/30) Event: Archaeology Day
Saturday morning at 10, the Augusta Museum of History and the Augusta Archaeological Society present “Archaeology Day” at the Ezekiel Harris House, 1822 Broad St. Archaeologists identify and classify prehistoric and historic artifacts in their collections. Also featured are flint knapping and primitive weapon demonstrations. Additional info at AugustaMuseum.org.
(Sat 04/30) - Augusta Animal Services "Friends & Family Fun Day"
Saturday from 11 til 3, Augusta Animal Services, 4164 Mack Lane, presents a dog-friendly “Friends and Family Fun Day.” Activities include face painting, dog-training demos, games, and live reptiles from the Savannah River Site Ecology Lab. And, its an opportunity to meet adoptable pets! More info on the animal services page at AugustaGA.gov.
(Sat 04/30) - Amy Grant
This weekend offers a chance to hear 6-time Grammy winner Amy Grant live in concert for her “Live Life Together Tour”. She is the first Christian music artist to have a platinum record. (Sun 05/1) Artrageous! Family Sunday: Pots and Paper
This Sunday afternoon at 2, the Morris Museum of Art presents “Artrageous! Family Sunday: Pots and Paper”, a fun time for families to create homemade paper and sculpt clay pinch pots. (Tues 05/03) James Brown Birthday Bash
James Brown’s birthday is May 3rd and you know Augusta is ready to celebrate for him. The “James Brown Birthday Bash” is Tuesday at the Augusta Common in downtown Augusta.
