(Thu 05/05) Meditation in the Galleries
Thursday morning at 8:45, “Meditation in the Galleries” takes place at the Morris Museum of Art in downtown Augusta. It’s an opportunity to learn the practice of meditation with instructor and author Kevin Sharpe, while surrounded by images in the exhibition Paintings by Victoria Lowe. (Fri & Sat 05/06-05/07) The Augusta Players: Mary Poppins
This Friday and Saturday evening at 8, the Augusta Players present “Mary Poppins,” the broadway musical based on the award-winning, Disney classic film. The production features the most popular songs, including “A Spoonful of Sugar” and “Jolly Holiday.” It takes place at the Imperial Theatre, 749 Broad Street in Augusta. Saturday morning at 9, Goodwill Industries hosts their annual Dragon Boat Festival at Lake Olmstead, 2200 Broad St. Teams of 10 per boat paddle for a purpose with 2 boats racing at a time on a short course. The race is combined with an Asian Arts festival full of family fun and Asian traditions. More info at goodboats.org.

You have the Olympic Games, The X-Games, and now you have “The Redneck Games”. Saturday at 4pm, the annual Redneck Games at take place at The New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam, located on Lock and Dam Rd. In Augusta. Mother’s Day is Sunday, so why not set aside some time to appreciate yhour mother and have some fun? Saturday is the 1st annual “CSRA Mother and Son Dance”. The dance offers live music, food and drinks. Its at the Ramada Hotel, 640 Broad Street in Augusta from 6 til 9pm. More information and ticket prices can be found on their Facebook Page.

This Saturday evening at 7, the Davidson Fine Arts Alumni Association presents the Davidson artWISE Gala, a celebration of Augusta’s commitment to arts education. The proceeds fund the DFA programs. Guests must be at least 18 years old. The celebration is at the Augusta Museum of History, 560 Reynolds Street. More info at DFAalumni.org.
(Sat 05/07) Aiken Community Playhouse: Dearly Departed This Saturday evening at 7:30, the Aiken Community Playhouse presents “Dearly Departed,” a play written by David Bottrell and Jessie Jones. The play is a comedy about the Turpin family dealing with problems, while preparing for their father’s funeral. A-C-P is located at 126 Newberry Street Southwest in Aiken. Saturday evening at 8, The Christian McBride Trio, featuring 5-time Grammy award winner Christian McBride, plays the Barnard Amphitheatre on Augusta University’s Summerville Campus. It’s part of “The Concert Series Formerly Known as Jazz At The G”. Augusta favorites The JAMP Masters and Trey McLaughlin are also set to perform. (Sun 05/08) Mother’s Day Celebration The “Ultimate Mothers Day Celebration” concert with Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and special guest Tank is Sunday evening at 7:30, at the James Brown Arena in downtown Augusta. (Sat 05/14) 10th Annual PaddleFest
What mixes better with warm weather that water? The 10th Annual PaddleFest is Saturday from 9 til 7 at The Savannah Rapids Pavilion at the dend of Evans to Locks Road. You can paddle down the river leisurely, or compete in one of the races. The event offers canoe, kayak, or standup paddleboard races. Bring your own or rent one.
