(Tue 5/17) Tuesday Morning from 10:30 til noon, Imagination Station--Augusta’s neighborhood children’s museum--presents “Ms. Kathy’s story time”. The museum is located in the Patricia Rigsby Daniel Recreation Center in Hickman Park. The event features stories, songs, counting and dancing ideal for young children. Details at ImagineAugusta.Org
(Thr 5/19) Historic Augusta’s annual Cotton Ball is this Thursday evening. It takes place at Twin Gables, the home of Augusta University President Dr. Brooks Keel. Dinner, dessert, a cash bar, music and mingling are all on tap for the evening. Proceeds benefit Historic Augusta, and the effort to preserve the city’s historic places. (Thr 5/19) The 20th season of The North Augusta Cultural Arts Council’s "Music in the Park" series is underway. The free concerts take place at Maude Edenfield Park Pavilion, adjacent to The North Augusta Community Center on Brookside Avenue each Thursday evening through the end of July. Showtime is 7pm. (Now – Fri 5/20) The North Augusta Cultural Arts Council present’s their 2016 Student Art Show. The exhibit includes the work of students from Elementary, Middle, and High Schools in North Augusta. (Fri 05/20) Friday at noon, The Morris Museum of Art presents, “Art At Lunch: A Dimensionality of Folk Art. Jason Hoelscher, Gallery Director and Assistant Professor of Art at Georgia Southern University, discusses the unique aspects of southern folk pottery. (Fri 05/20) What mixes better with beer than barbeque? The 2nd annual “Hops and Hogs” is Friday in downtown Aiken at the corner of Pendleton St and Hayne Avenue Extension. The all-day event features live music from local band Delta Cane, local barbeque and regional craft beer. Admission is free. More information at AikenDDA.US.
(Fri 05/20) The Aiken Community Players present “Bechtel Theatre Coffeehouse” this Friday evening at 7pm. Based on the “beat-nik style” coffee houses of the 1960’s, the “thrice-annual” event features open mic sessions, musical entertainment, poetry, short scenes from upcoming A-C-P productions, and special guests. (Sat 05/21) This Saturday, The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History hosts the Inaugural Lucy Craft Laney Benefit Golf Tournament. It takes place from 6am til 5pm at The Augusta Municipal Golf Course. The entry fee includes contests, prizes, a catered lunch and more. Pre-registration is required. (Fri 05/27-28) Since 2010, the “Banjo-B-Que” Music Festival has been rocking the CSRA with its feel-good music, awesome barbeque and family friendly atmosphere. Banjobque is Friday May 27th from 4 to 11 and Saturday May 28th, 10:30 to 11 at the Evans Town Center Park. There’s live music, craft beer, a petting zoo, pig races and of course barbeque. (Sat 05/29) A combination of poetry, music and paintings makes for a fun evening. The “Salmon and Grits Poetry Show” is Sunday May 29th from 7 to 11 at the JS Hardin Performing Arts Center on Evans Town Center Boulevard in Evans.
