Monday and Tuesday, The Augusta Junior Players are holding auditions for their upcoming production of “Legally Blond”, under the direction of Laura Butler, Paul Jones and Kaitlyn Dunaway. Auditions are open for ages 13 to 19, and take place at The Jessye Norman School of The Arts on Greene Street in Downtown Augusta. The production is scheduled for August 5th through 7th. The Hopelands Summer Concert Series, presented by The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department, continues Monday from 7 til 10pm. This year marks the 42nd season of the program. Bring your blanket lawn chair and picnic basket, but alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited. Admission is free. This week, “Four Cats in The Doghouse” take to the Windham Performing Arts Stage at Hopelands Gardens, on Whiskey Road in Aiken. Rain location is the H. Odell Weeks Center. Wednesday evening, Le Chat Noir presents “Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School of Augusta”. The concept is simple: artist’s draw glamorous burlesque dancers, compete in contests, and win wacky prizes. The monthly session features burlesque babes, roller derby girls, drag queens and sideshow performers, along with the contests and prizes. This event is 18 and up. Thursday afternoon at 1, The Aiken Historical Museum presents "Tour of Banksia-the Residence of Mr. Richard Howe”. Mary White leads the tour, which highlights how this wonderful building has changed in its 85 years. Admission is free, but reservations are required. The tour departs from The Aiken County Historical Museum, 433 Newberry Street, Southwest in Aiken. More information is available at AikenMuseum.US.
(Thu 5/26) Thursday evening at 6, The Morris Museum of Art presents “Art Now: Aldwyth”. It’s an opportunity to join the artist “Aldwyth” as she discusses her complex collages and assemblages. Aldwyth is the 2015 winner of the Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Award, presented by the South Carolina Arts Commission, and is represented in museums and galleries throughout America. Admission is free. (Thu 5/26) The 20th season of The North Augusta Cultural Arts Council’s "Music in the Park" series is underway. The free concerts take place at Maude Edenfield Park Pavilion…adjacent to The North Augusta Community Center….on Brookside Avenue each Thursday evening through the end of July. Showtime is 7pm. This week, it’s “The North Augusta Idol Spotlight with North Augusta Mayor Lark Jones”. More info at NAArtsCouncil.Org.

This weekend and next, The Aiken Community Players presents “How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying”! The clever musical comedy lampoons life on the corporate ladder as it follows the rise of an ambitious your man who goes from window washer to Chairman of The Board. Since 2010, the “Banjo-B-que” Music Festival has been rocking the CSRA with its feel-good music, awesome barbeque and family friendly atmosphere. Banjo-B-que is Friday May 27th from 4 to 11 and Saturday May 28th, 10:30 to 11 at the Evans Town Center Park. There’s live music, craft beer, a petting zoo, pig races and of course barbeque. A combination of poetry, music and paintings makes for a fun evening. The “Salmon and Grits Poetry Show” is Sunday May 29th from 7 to 11 at the JS Hardin Performing Arts Center on Evans Town Center Boulevard in Evans. Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home presents their annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday Memorial Day. The guest speaker is Col. Charles P. Daly, 35th Signal Brigade (Theater Tactical) at Ft. Gordon.
