(Mon 8/1…) It’s here! The new Season lineup for Augusta’s Southern Soul and Song Series at the Imperial Theatre in downtown Augusta is out—and Season and Individual tickets are now available. Kicking off September 9th with Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives, the series steams ahead with outstanding artists including Mountain Faith and The Willis Clan. (Mon 8/1) The 42nd season of The Hopelands Summer Concert Series continues. Monday at 7pm with The Savannah River String Band performing on The Windham Performing Arts Stage. Lawn chairs, blankets and picnic dinners are welcome, but alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited. The Hopelands Summer Concert Series is presented by The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department. Hopelands Gardens is located off of Whiskey Road in Aiken. (Wed 8/3) It’s time for “Story Time in the Park”. Presented the first Wednesday of each month by the City of Aiken at Osbon Park, the event is designed to instill a love of reading in children ages 8 and under. Admission, which runs from 10 til 11am, is free, and each family receives a free book. Osbon Park is located at 346 Columbia Avenue in Aiken. Additional information is available at cityofaikensc.gov
(Thu 8/4) You’re invited to “Run with Pardon” this Thursday at Augusta University’s Maxwell Theatre. It’s a free screening of the moving documentary short that follows Pardon NDhlovu—Zimbabwean and Augusta University alumnus—on his journey toward competing in the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympic Games. (Thu 8/4) The ”Mommy and Me” children’s visual arts series continues at The Morris Museum. This time around, the focus is “A Day At The Beach”. Participants view and talk about artwork featuring beaches. Then, the children get to create their own tropical visor. It’s Thursday from 10 til 11am at the museum, 10th and Reynolds in Downtown Augusta. Registration and additional information is available on the calendar tab at TheMorris.org
(Fri 8/5) The Augusta Museum of History presents “Member’s Night Out: Victorian Augusta”. These events, which take place at the museum—560 Reynolds Street downtown —happen the first Friday of every month from 5:30 til 7:30pm, with a different theme, a craft, and hands-on activities for the entire family. (Fri 8/5) This Friday at noon, the Morris Museum’s FREE Films on Friday Series presents “Carmen Jones”—the 1954 classic featuring Oscar Hammerstein II's lyrics set to Bizet’s music from his opera Carmen--and in a World War II timeframe. (Fri 8/5) Here comes first Friday and more eXtreme Theater Games at Le Chat Noir starting at 8pm. XTG is Le Chat’s popular comedy show, with performances at 8 and at 10pm. It’s improv with on-the-spot fresh comedy and classic short-form improv games. More info online at LiveCatDeadCat.com
(Sat 8/6) The Augusta Junior Players present "Legally Blonde: The Musical". It’s the comedic story of a ditsy sorority girl who enrolls in Harvard Law School. (Sat 8/6) This Saturday morning, you can enjoy a leisurely, guided hike at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park from 9:30 to 11:30. Nature Park trail walks feature a variety of wildlife, and hikers can learn about the diverse plant life and urban wetland ecology. Comfortable, closed-toe shoes are recommended along with drinking water for the trek The Park is located at 1858 Lock and Dam Road. More info is online at PhinizyCenter.org/events
